Buying a home? Why you shouldn't let fear get in the way...

Fear.  The afraid of the unknown.  The perfect topic for the spooky month of October, with it’s month-long celebration of Halloween.  However, fear is also a dreadful emotion to feel, and face, when pursuing the goal of buying a home.  It’s okay to be afraid.  Buying a home is a big step, both financially and emotionally.  It is also one of the most rewarding steps you can take in life.  So don’t give up!

Oranges, yellows & reds seem to be mostly associated with the Fall season. However, these wonderfully warm colors are great to use all year long.  Especially in colder climates, or dimly lit spaces (like the north rooms of a home).  Want to warm up your home's decor?  Take a look at some of these ideas ...

What is the true cost of waiting to buy a home?

If you are thinking about buying a home, but aren't sure about the cost, this KCM article offers a different way to look at it.  Especially, for the younger buyers who are watching every penny.  Years ago, when Oprah was still on, she had David Bach on her show.  He coined the phrase "the latte factor" and wrote books and seminars on the topic.  His theory was that if you saved what you were spending on a cup of Starbucks coffee every day, you could save up some big money.  This article has a similar theme to it, providing encouragement to buy the home NOW.  It may mean sacrificing a few items in the short term, however in the long run, it should be well worth it!

Want a higher net worth? Start by...

buying a home!

Most housing markets saw a crash in home values around 2008.  That has left some people questioning whether they should buy a home, or rent instead.  Here is a pretty good reason to buy - the average homeowners' net worth is over 30 times greater than that of the average renter.   Who doesn't want to be on the winning side of that statistic?

Nothing beats the dog days of summer

I have said it a number of times - I want to come back as my dog in my next life.  My dogs are spoiled, and absolutely adored.  And they love to take walks, and ride in the car, and play ball.  They hate the water.  Two labs, and they avoid lakes, ponds, sprinklers and our pool - at all costs.  It doesn't seem to bother them though - they make up for it where they can.

What fun is your dog having this summer? http://ow.ly/zLccI

Do you know this simple step that could prevent a battery-triggered fire?

In an effort to minimize my "carbon footprint," I collect all of our dead batteries and place them in a  box in the basement.  When the box is full, I take it to the County hazardous waste collection event.  Never did I imagine that my recycling effort could potentially be exposing my house, family and pets to a devastating fire.  Having experienced a fire in my college apartment, I know that it is something a never want to relive.  Twenty years later, I can close my eyes and see the flames shooting up the wall and across the ceiling.  The melted ceiling light fixture, the burned counter top.  And I can hear the popping of the exploding Pepsi cans, that were sitting right next to the stove.  I haven't tried to heat up oil for fondue since.  Guess how many fire extinguishers we received as wedding gifts the following year?

Take a few minutes to watch this quick video and learn one simple, quick & inexpensive tip to minimize your risk of a house fire.  I'm off to buy some electrical tape...
